Witnessing humpback whales breach off the coast might be my favorite thing ever. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any breaching. Saw more breaching from the beach at Kamaole two a few days ago. But it was fun to see them so close. A few slapped their wings and their tails for us. Giant splashes!

We saw several whales breach, and even had a baby whale swim near our boat. The small boat size made it feel personal, and the guide was excellent at explaining everything about the whales’ migration. The raft was fast, allowing us to get to the action quickly. I’ve been on other whale watching tours, but this one stands out for how close we got to the whales! They came right up to us, and we got to see them so close!

I’ve been on 4 boats from 3 trips to Hawaii. This was my favorite. I love how fast we went and how low to the water we were. It’s nice not being crowded either. It was good to get to know the captain and mate and ask them questions about the marine environment in and around Molokini Island. Thanks again!

In reply to Justin P.. That's a really good question, Justin. I don't know if their behavior will change, but it's possible they'll venture closer to shore if there are less people in the water. Don't know really. So far, the island is open with about 1/2 as many arrivals as their were this time last year per day. It's not too busy. Would be good to have this amount of people all the time. As far as whale watch tours, the more boats that are out, the more sightings and communication between captains to find pods. I don't think additional boats in the water deters whale activity.
