Bars that stay open past 9 pm are few and far between. But at Luau Kalamaku, the night comes alive! Heralded as one of the most theatrical luaus on Kauai, Luau Kalamaku is our personal favorite Kauai luau. Captivating stories flow from the stage just like the drinks at the open bar. The Hawaiian-style buffet is as meticulously crafted as the ornate costumes. And the Polynesian dances—namely, the fire knife dances— keep you on the edge of your seat.

THE SHOW

Kalamaku fire dancer

When the sun goes down on Kauaʻi, the stage at Kilohana Plantation erupts in song, dance, and fire. As hula dancers sway, fiery poi balls burn, and rhythmic drums pound, guests are taken on a journey across the Pacific. Vivid storytellers recount an extraordinary sea voyage from Tahiti to Hawaii. Hawaiian mythology is woven throughout the performance, animating some of Hawaii’s most powerful goddesses. The Luau Kalamaku show honors the tenacious Polynesians who settled the islands and acts as a history and mythology lesson. With a crop of talented local performers, interactive stories, and choreography worthy of a Tony Award, you won’t want to look away.

THE FEAST

Indulge in Hawaii’s favorite fare at Luau Kalamaku’s lavish buffet. The feast commences with an authentic ʻimu ceremony, where the kalua pig is unearthed from the underground oven. Now, it’s time to eat! Help yourself to heaping plates of traditional Hawaiian eats like poi, kalua pork, and fish. Some of Hawaii’s adopted favorites, including teriyaki chicken, vegetable chow mein, and potato macaroni salad, are also offered. Are you gluten-free? Vegan? Or simply have picky eaters in tow? The extensive menu satisfies all tummies and taste buds.

THE LOCATION

Luau Kalamaku is located on the storied Kilohana Plantation— a former sugar plantation that dates back to the late 19th century. Sprawling across 105 acres, today, the estate is home to a 1930s-style mansion, a 2.5-mile rail line, a top-rated restaurant, shops, and Luau Kalamaku. Arrive early to explore the unique variety of shops or pick up a one-of-a-kind “Made on Kauai” souvenir from the artisan market on the luau grounds. Or, grab a ticket for a train ride into the heart of the plantation, where you’ll tour orchards of tropical fruit and feed friendly farm animals. This is one of our favorite Kauai Luaus!

PACKAGES

Choose from the Hawaiian, Silver, Gold, or the Manor Horse Experience & Luau package. With all of the luau packages, you will enjoy an open bar, buffet access, and a taste of genuine Hawaiian hospitality. Meanwhile, the Manor House Experience & Luau welcomes you as a VIP guest and highlights Kilohana Plantations’ culinary excellence. This package includes a lei greeting, a four-course meal at the renowned Gaylord’s restaurant, a complimentary welcome drink, a champagne toast, and premier seating at Luau Kalamaku.

THE ZIPLINES

This Kauai zipline course features eight thrilling lines, including three of the longest ziplines on Kauai! The first line is a mellow warm-up, measuring a mere 240 feet. But the lines only get bigger, better, and faster from there. You’ll get a feel for speed on the second zip, which clocks in at 1,100 feet. By the third, you’ll be a bonafide professional, ready to attempt upside-down rides and other fun tricks. The course culminates with a surge of excitement— and a whole lotta speed— on the longest zipline in Kauai, measuring a half mile.

THE VIEWS

Kauai Zipline Zipping

Nestled between lush mountains, the sparkling Pacific Ocean, and the waters of the Waita Reservoir, this Kauai zipline boasts some of the best panoramas on the island. Take in unique views of the forest as you zip through corridors of towering Albizia trees or skim above the canopy. The last line takes you directly over the Waita Reservoir, presenting a perspective like no other. While the views from the ziplines are second to none, the scenes from the zipline take-off platforms are arguably even better. You’ll soak in the vistas of Koloa’s unspoiled greenery, lush mountains, and vast reservoir.

YOUR EQUIPMENT

This Kauai zipline tour utilizes custom “Flyin’ Kaua’iian” harnesses. These full-body harnesses are some of the most versatile in the industry. That means the possibilities for spins, tricks, and aerobatics are virtually endless. Whether you go upside down, backward, Superman style, or hands-free, the choice is yours! The ziplines are also outfitted with custom pulleys, which allow you to comfortably stabilize yourself during the zip— if spins and tricks aren’t your thing.

SAFETY

Despite all the fun, safety doesn’t take a backseat at this zipline course. All guests are provided helmets and outfitted with safe and secure harnesses. Before you take flight, you’ll get comfortable with tricks and safety methods at the “ground school.” Kids must be at least seven years old to participate, and lighter children can go “piggyback” with an accompanying adult. Thanks to the custom harnesses, this is the only zipline company on Kauai that allows “piggyback” zippers!

THE SHOW

Authenticity is at the forefront of ʻAuliʻi Lūʻau. Where other luaus replace accuracy with kitsch or dramatics, Aulii Luau showcases the genuine culture of Polynesia. The show takes the audience on a voyage through time, from when the Maʻohi people crossed the Pacific using the stars as their navigational guides to when Hollywood became infatuated with Hawaii in the 1950s. Listen as mythological tales are recounted through hula and chant and watch as ancient fire-throwing demonstrations are honored. After introducing the audience to Hawaiian, Tahitian, and Maori cultures, the evening culminates with a thrilling Samoan fire knife dance.

FOOD AND DRINK

Aulii Luau Fire Dancing

Aulii Luau is as much about showcasing Polynesian culture as it is Hawaiian fare. Get the evening started at the open bar, where an endless flow of Mai Tais, Blue Hawaiians, wine, and beer are served. Or, sample a delightful selection of Hawaiian pupus like beef pipi kaula, purple sweet potatoes, and tako poke. As the sun sets, indulge in the all-you-can-eat buffet. ʻAuliʻi Lūʻau works with talented chefs at the Sheraton Resort to prepare an unforgettable Hawaiian feast. Entrees include favorites like chow mein, fresh fish, kalua pork, taro rolls, and Huli Huli chicken. Just be sure to save room for a dessert of mango cake, coconut cake, pineapple upside-down cake, brownies, or fresh pineapple.

THE SETTING

Few Kauai luaus take place in such a heavenly setting. Located on the oceanfront lawn of the Sheraton Resort, the action unfolds just steps from Poipu Beach. After arrival, guests are invited to enjoy a cocktail amid swaying palms and bask in the fading sunlight and gentle tradewinds.

PACKAGES

Choose from the Aloha standard package or the Aliʻi premier package. The Aloha package provides guests entrance to the luau, a shell lei greeting, and access to the open bar and buffet. Meanwhile, the Aliʻi package offers express check-in, a specialty lei, and reserved tables within the first four rows of seating.
